There are hundreds of thousands of children in Utah in the public education system and tens of thousands are in these programs and the programs are spreading. We need to stop them before they get a bigger foothold and shut down the programs that are currently running.

There are two ways to make a donation. You can use Paypal by clicking one of the donation buttons below, or you can write a check (made out to Teach Utah Kids) and mail it to:

I’m Oak Norton. What if college physics classes stopped teaching students and they had to figure out their own formulas for gravity and everything else? That would be insane! Alpine School District is doing this with our children's math programs based on the *theory* that constructed knowledge is better remembered than if a teacher actually teaches them. To have teachers actually teach our children again, sign the petition at TeachUtahKids.com. When California tried this style of math in the 90’s, forced enrollment in remedial math college classes increased dramatically. Don't let that happen here. Sign the petition at TeachUtahKids.com.

Maybe you think this isn’t your battle? It’s just the Alpine School District where the problem lies. You’re wrong. The same curriculum that removes teaching the times tables to children has been approved by the state board of education and is currently being looked at in multiple school districts across the state. Only with an early effort can you prevent a lengthy battle in the future. Please sign the petition now at TeachUtahKids.com.

I’m Oak Norton. What do you think of “new” math programs? You know, the kind designed to make our kids feel good about themselves and not overly stress them out getting proper results. Did you know that one of the people nationally recommending Investigations Math said that teaching children pencil and paper methods of math is “not only unnecessary, but counterproductive and downright dangerous.” Imagine that, teaching our kids math is dangerous because now they have calculators to do it for them. Is there any question in your mind that this man should be nowhere near your child’s math classroom? And yet he is.

The Utah state board is endorsing these liberal math programs to our schools such as Investigations math which removes the times tables from the curriculum. These programs have been condemned by hundreds of leading mathematicians and Nobel Laureates. Please sign the petition at TeachUtahKids.com. No matter where you live, talk to your school board and tell them you don’t want “new” math, you want your kids taught in the classroom. Sign the petition today at TeachUtahKids.com.

I’m Oak Norton. Dr. E.D. Hirsch is a brilliant educator. Several years ago he wrote a book called, “The Schools We Need and Why We Don’t Have Them.” This book lists the findings of major educational research projects and compares them to today’s curricula.

In discussing “new” math programs where children construct their own learning such as Investigations Math being used in the Alpine School District and being pushed on other districts in the state, Dr. Hirsch says, “experience has shown that ‘discovery learning’ is the least effective method in the teacher’s repertory.” (page 246)

He also states “Saxon math’s approach is reasonably close to what research is telling us about how students learn--much closer, than are the progressive methods advocated by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.” (page 131)

Dr. Hirsch has done the research. Sign the petition at TeachUtahKids.com to get rid of Investigations math. Speak with your school board to prevent them from implementing this program in your district and again, please sign the petition at TeachUtahKids.com.

Major Breaking News...NCTM does a 180 after 17 years of destroying math in America

It must really irritate the folks at Alpine School District (ASD) who have taken to calling all my work "biased and flawed" to have such no-name disreputable organizations pandering to my lies. The legacy of ASD will be the disenfranchisement of tens of thousands of students unable to obtain a technical higher education degree.
