Weekly Math Updates
December 03, 2008
Hope you all enjoyed the holidays. I don't normally start off with the *laughs*, but I have to share this with you. After Thanksgiving dinner with my wife's family (she's #10 of 12 children (all married w/ kids) so it was a very packed cultural hall), we taped off an area and started playing 4 square. I'm not sure which of the kids started it, but it brought back a lot of memories from my childhood so I joined in along with a couple other "pseudo-adults". Custom variations started coming out but playing with kids we didn't get too carried away. The next morning I thought about the game and wondered if there were actually some official rules that were out there and there were. I learned I've been playing it all wrong since I was a kid. I won't detail the rules for you, but I came across this very dramatic and funny elementary school video of a 4-square rivalry.
The Dog House
I promise you'll all laugh at this one. Guys, this is your final Christmas warning. :)
Obama's New Private School.....uses Investigations
Just wait and see. ASD will soon be talking about how great Investigations must be because Obama has decided to put his children into a private school using the program.
Homeschooling Families to Double
I guess it was time I took a stab at the future with a personal prediction. Naturally I didn't put a timeframe on this so I'm 99% sure I'll be proven right. :) I'd guess within the next 2-3 years there will be a very strong surge in homeschooling families. This will be due in part to the following:
1) Families are under direct assault in our current education system. Parents cannot opt their children out of homosexual indoctrination. (watch this prophetic clip by Neal Maxwell 30 years ago)
2) Anti-God officials are telling Christians they have second-class rights. In Washington state, as reported by Bill O'Reilly, the governor approved a billboard posted near a nativity scene that says, "Reason's Greetings: At this season of the Winter Solstice may reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."
3) School boards and administrators that don't "get it". For example, it is intuitive that you teach children what they need to know and that children are not designed (as a whole) to inquisitively acquire knowledge of complex subjects like math with a "guide on the side". It is also incredibly frustrating as a parent and one who loves freedom to see our own school district indoctrinate our children in false political philosophy. On ASD's website right now (link) they have redesigned it and the largest item on the page is "Educating All Students To Ensure The Future Of Our Democracy." They don't get it. We're not a Democracy. We're a Republic. Don't try to convince them of that though. You'll just be frustrated because they know more than you do and therefore your efforts to help them see the light will be fruitless.
Side ramble: You know how people always say don't discuss politics and religion? Why is that? The reason is because there are so many opinions as to what is right that people have a hard time not getting upset when their "truth" isn't accepted by someone else with a different "truth". Truth, however, is truth. It is not changeable. Truth is based on principles, not opinions. There are both religious and political truths that are incontrovertable facts no matter whether or not someone accepts them. God exists is a fact, regardless of whether an atheist *knows* he doesn't (side side note-how exactly can anyone say they *know* God doesn't exist? Who revealed that to them??? Satan?)
Political principles are just as true and understandable within its realm as religious principles. Both lead to freedom if they are true principles. Religious principles lead to spiritual freedom, and political principles lead to temporal or physical freedom. As our country more fully embraces socialism and false philosophies like "we're a Democracy", our freedoms disappear because we no longer have the knowledge of what it takes to maintain a free society.
Thomas Jefferson said: "In a republic, virtue may be defined as the love of the laws and of our country. As such love requires a constant preference of public to private interest, it is the source of all private virtue; for they are nothing more than this very preference itself... Now a government is like everything else: to preserve it we must love it... Everything, therefore, depends on establishing this love in a republic; and to inspire it ought to be the principal business of education; but the surest way of instilling it into children is for parents to set them an example."
A study of the scriptures will lead to an understanding of true religious principles. To obtain an understanding of true political principles, we must study the origins of the United States constitution, which was a God-inspired document for the express purpose of giving mankind a free land in which to learn true religious principles. You cannot have freedom of conscience without freedom of expression.
Cleon Skousen was one who spent his lifetime seeking true religious and political principles. One of his very best books for explaning political principles of freedom as they were used to set up our country, is "The 5,000 Year Leap".
Christmas present selection
Since it's the Christmas season, I encourage you to do the following (which I am also doing). If you go to www.nccs.net and add this particular book to your cart it will cost you $20. However, if you change the quantity to 10, the individual book price drops to $5 each. This book will make an excellent gift this Christmas. Christmas is all about the freedom from sin that God gave each of us. In order to maintain it, we need to understand the principles of freedom that maintain our freedom to worship God according to the dictates of our conscience. Please buy 10 of these books and give 9 of them away as Christmas presents. If people would start reading books like this, we may yet return our country to constitutional principles of freedom and liberty.
Articles of Interest
That said, check out this transcript from Glenn Beck's radio show. Fascism is coming soon to a theater near you!
Couple Glenn's piece with what Joe Biden said in October after he and Barrack had their first top level security briefing about what was going on in the world. Biden said,
Biden then said it wouldn't be apparent that they had the right solution to the problem but that we would just need to trust them. Riiiiiiiiiiiight. Lets see, a generated crisis, and the government saying they've got the solution... Hmmm, where did I read that before??? Oh yes, KGB-defector Bezmenov's comments that this is the last phase of removing a free market economy and imposing socialism and communism. (link to that issue if you missed it)
So if you couple putting troops in our country with a generated crisis and a decision that isn't going to feel right to the population, what do you get??? Oh forget all that, Merry Christmas America.
Have you been following the controversy on Barrack Obama's unconstitutional presidency? Yes that's right, before he even takes office, there's finally momentum to expose that he's ineligible. Obama is not a U.S. citizen so by the constitution, he's ineligible because he's not a "natural born" citizen. To any on this list that might be saying, "oh come on he was elected," are we a nation that lives by law or lawlessness?
If you are Obama, why not put the whole issue to rest and release your birth certificate instead of doing every legal maneuver to prevent its release.
This Friday the Supreme court reviews a case challenging Obama on this issue. You can send letters to the Supremes through this web address.
The new visitor center in the U.S. Capitol has been opened. Senator Jim Demint from S. Carolina issued a statement Tuesday criticizing the new facility for "omitting the history of faith." DeMint noted that the new tourist spot ignored his request to include the phrase "In God We Trust" and the Pledge of Allegiance.
DeMint said the center, which opened Tuesday, also has displays that are "left-leaning and in some cases distort our true history."
Great Free Resources
The Foundation for Economic Education has free audio clips and loads of resources to help educate yourself on free market principles.
FreeAudio.org allows you to download files and post the audio anywhere you want. In fact you are encouraged to do this.
"The Law" by Frederick Bastiat is available for free here, narrated by Marvin Payne who starred in the excellent BYU film on the constitutional congress "A More Perfect Union" as well as "How Rare a Possession" where he was Parley Pratt's brother. I wish everyone would listen or read this amazing little book that exposes socialism and legal plunder for what they are.
